JANAPADA S BALAJI (folklore S Balaji)

Janapada S Balaji (often referred to simply as Dr. S Balaji or Janapada Balaji / Jogi Balaji) is a prominent Kannada cultural activist and folklorist from the Indian state of Karnataka, known especially for his work in preserving and promoting janapada (folk) arts and culture.  

🌾 Who He Is

• Founder of Kannada Janapada Parishath: Dr. S Balaji established the Kannada Janapada Parishath, an organization dedicated to documenting, promoting, and preserving the rich folk traditions of Karnataka.  

• Nicknames: He is affectionately known as Janapada Balaji or Jogi Balaji among cultural circles and well-wishers.  

🎭 Contributions to Folk Culture

• Folk Documentation: He has surveyed and documented over 250 diverse folk art forms and the artists who practice them, creating one of the largest networks of folk artists across Karnataka.  

• Artisan Support & Advocacy: Balaji actively works to support folk artists—advocating for their rights, recognition, and welfare both at the grassroots level and within cultural policy frameworks.  

• Youth Engagement: He initiated a youth network called the Folklore Youth Brigade, aimed at outreach, cultural awareness, and addressing challenges that folk performers face.  

• Janapada Kutira: Under his leadership, Janapada Kutira was created—a physical hub that hosts residencies, workshops, and houses a museum of folk instruments to sustain traditional art practices.  

📜 Roles & Recognition

• Government Advisory: Dr. S Balaji serves on cultural advisory bodies such as the ICCR’s (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) RAC and as a state advisory member for NSS (National Service Scheme), Government of Karnataka.  

• Folk Artist Welfare: In his capacity with the Kannada Janapada Parishath, he has voiced public appeals for better pensions and support systems for traditional artists in Karnataka.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಾನಪದ ಪರಿಷತ್ತಿ ನದರ್ಶಿಕೆ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಗೋಕಾಕ :  ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಾನಪದ ಪರಿಷತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು  2026 ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನ ದಿನದರ್ಶಿಕೆಯನ್ನು  ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಗೋಕಾಕ್ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ  ಶೂನ್ಯ ಸಂಪಾದನೆ ಮಠದ  ಪೀಠಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಮುರುಘರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ಮಹಾಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಾನಪದ ಪರಿಷತ್ ರಾಜ್ಯಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ  ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾರತದ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಐಸಿಸಿಆರ್ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಡಾ. ಜಾನಪದ ಎಸ್ ಬಾಲಾಜಿ  ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆ ನಿವೃತ್ತ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಾಹ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ  ತೋಟಾರ್ ಗತ್ತಿ, ಹಿರಿಯ ಪಾರಿಜಾತ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಈಶ್ವರ್ ಚಂದ್ರ ಬೆಟಿಗೇರಿ, ಯೋಗ ಗುರುಗಳಾದ ಆನಂದ್ ಸ್ವರಗಾವಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಾನಪದ ಪರಿಷತ್  ಧಾರಾವಾಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಸದಾನಂದ ಎಂ,ಯುವ ಘಟಕದ  ಮಹಾಲಿಂಗ ಬಿಸನಕೊಪ್ಪ, ಮುತ್ತು, ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
